Passion fruit is a tropical fruit that is sweet and tangy. I’ve never actually tried the fruit by itself, but I’ve had many drinks with the pulp in it. I wanted to make a drink with ingredients that’ll both complement the passion fruit flavor, while retaining their own distinct flavors.
So I started by using a high quality cachaça. Some say that it is similar to rum, but not quite. Cachaça is distilled from sugar cane juice, while rum is distilled from molasses. You can definitely taste and smell the difference. Great quality Cachaça smells like sugar cane juice, rum does not.
Next, I chose high quality passion fruit liqueur. For that, I went to the Dominican Republic. Chinola is way better than Passoa. Yes I said it, and I mean that whole-heartedly!
To sweeten up the drink, I made a strawberry jam with pureed strawberry and honey. I also made a tepache syrup.
Finally to balance the drink, I used freshly pressed lime juice. Enjoy!
